Winter Weddings can be full of surprises. The weather is not a given and the cold does tend to curtail the willingness to go outside and capture the exquisite landscapes around venues such as the Castle Dargan Hotel in Sligo. But for Laura & Bernards wedding, I was so excited to photograph these two. Ever since I did their pre wedding shoot in Hazelwood, I’ve been looking forward to capturing their day. I started early at Laura’s house on the wedding details while the Hair and Makeup was still underway. There’s an unwritten rule to not photograph any of the girls until they have their makeup done ( I’ve 5 sisters and they’ve always warned me not to) so I always start with the wedding details such as the dress, shoes, jewellery, etc. One of my favourite Makeup Artists, Aisling Leydon was on hand to keep the girls at ease and she always lets me know when she’s doing final touch ups. Laura’s Parents house was looking so luxurious and festive with all the Christmas decorations and I even got an opportunity to photograph Laura’s pet bijon, Lucy in her wedding attire. Once Laura was in her dress, I photograph her with her family before leaving early to get to the church. Since I do a timeline with every couple, I always suggest to every bride to give themselves a half hour before the ceremony to just relax and enjoy the moment before rushing to the church. Before the ceremony, I photographed the dashing Groom, Bernard with his groomsmen as well as some of his family. The church was decorated by Enchanted Wedding Company with beautiful floral arrangements and lanterns giving a white christmas feel to the church. The Ceremony was in St. Colmans Church, a beautiful cathedral like church in the centre of Claremorris. After the ceremony, I photographed the families and bridal party on the steps of the candle lit altar before driving to Castle Dargan Hotel to catch the last few fleeting moments of the winter sun.
